Problem-Purpose Statements for Possible Projects

1.      TDICT Project directed by Dr. June Fisher Problem: Currently available step stool solutions do not meet her needs: some are too tall, others have a stepping area that is too small, and most do not have hand-holds to provide needed balance and stability during reaching. Finally many step stools are heavy and bulky, making them difficult to move and position. Purpose: Explore designs to provide a safe and stable means of accessing items on upper shelves. 2 .      PRRC Project by David Dubinsky Problem: One of the recreational areas contains a garden that includes a chicken coop as well as a greenhouse, but the area is not “fully accessible.” Purpose: Transform the existing space to be fully accessible for everyone to enjoy it. 3.      EFF Project Problem: EFF is represented at various conferences and events annually. At these events, we have an information booth set up where people can come up...

Reviews of Existing 505 Projects

MakerHub by Remdell Quiambao      Project Review by Michael Abajian PROBLEM STATEMENT Only a few libraries possess makerspaces, and thus many libraries, especially those with computer labs, do not utilize their spaces fully to accommate for further collaboration and cocreation. PROCEDURE / METHODOLOGY The goal of this project was to develop a product that gives makes and libraries the flexibility needed to provide and work within a more manageable, creative and collaborative workspace. The research done on libraries and makerspaces was derived from databases, expert feedback, and user surveys. Research centers were used primarily for statistical data. What worked: The research was organized well and collected from a variety of sources, providing statistics, historical data and professional opinions on the topic. The statistics prove that taking down libraries would heavily impact communities. Libraries are tackling the digital divide by providing f...

Personal Introduction

Image
My name is Michael Abajian and I'm currently an Industrial Design student at San Francisco State University. I especially enjoy 3D modeling, rendering, and hope to learn more about actual production. Some of my personal hobbies are snowboarding, skating, and video games. I take inspiration from designs apart of my hobbies and from day to day observations. Modern and concept designs are major influences in my designs whether it be from architecture, cars, concepts or general products. "Any product that needs a manual to work is broken." - Elon Musk To start my first academic goal would be to graduate, which hopefully will be this semester. After graduation or possibly before, I hope to start a new internship for this summer and learn the workings of a design firm. Taking skills from the internship, I plan on moving back to Los Angeles and landing a full time position in a new firm where I can further my skills. In the not so near future, I would hope to start my own co...
